Hi everyone,

I wonder if anyone can help or point me in the right direction.

I want to make a sugar paste picnic basket cake topper so it only needs to be small, now I am either having a dumb moment or not searching the right phase - but what is the best way to get the weaved effect?

I was thinking with make a wire frame and thread the sugar paste over that or make the weave flat and then try and shape it.....?

Any help would be appreciated, like I say I can't seem to work it out in my head and when searching the net can only seem to find the fondant weave effect for the whole cake!!

Thank you!!

I wouldn't go so far as actually weaving the sugar paste, but rather try and emboss it first with a texture mat, although you may rub out some of the imprint when shaping it. I think piping it on after you have your basic shape would be easier in the long run. Use royal icing and a basketweave icing tip, or just a regular small round tip depending on the weave you are going for.
