AI am new to the cake decorating scene and am SLOWLY trying to build up a supply of cake pans and cut outs for fondant and things. In your experience have you found the most luck with finding items online or chain stores like Michaels, AC Moore, etc? I feel like Wilton products are only sold in stores so I feel limited in my selection. Thanks in advance and happy decorating!
Invest in the highest quality that you can for certain things...particularly cake pans (only Magic Line or Fat Daddios!), mixer (Kitchen Aid is one of the best), food colors (Americolor) and turntable (Ateco) They are pricey but worth it, even if you are just starting out.
I love Ebay for gumpaste cutters. I bought hydrangea plunger/cutters for $1.50 as well as butterfly cutters for the same price.
Wilton is good for frosting tips and bags and little things, but for the most part, it's for the hobbyist who isn't going to be using it all the time.
Global Sugar Art carries a lot of specialty items as well and they have a great website.
I would rather have the PME tips over the Wilton. Can't believe I used them for so long when there was a MUCH better option out there!
And I get oddities from Ebay also! Depends on if I need quite a bit or if I only need 1 thing. I LOVE GSA and Fondant Source/Jesters. I can usually find anything I need between those 3.
We are in a very rural area so online purchases have been a blessing.
AFor me I buy ateco tips. Micheals keeps me coming back every now and then with those coupons. & I typically look for some cool stuff or either go to the clay section. They have things that can be used as cutters sometimes! eBay is another good resource as well
