The photo below is of a dummy cake I made together with a florist as a publicity stunt for both of us. I need to know the best way to fix fresh flowers to a real cake, in case someone ever orders one! The florist, like me, is English but lives in Spain, and has never done a real wedding cake with fresh flowers - she is going to ask some friends in England how they would do it since this type of cake is more common over there than here in Spain where they are fairly new. I wanted to also gauge some opinions from you guys.

In the case of the dummy, we just inserted pins into the flowers and into the cake. Of course on a real cake you couldn't do this since even if you were using sterilized pins, once they go through the flower they pick up gunk from inside of it and into the cake! What would be the best way to attach the flowers to the cake if it were real and you wanted a cascade like this?
