CC:..I'm making a wedding cake..the biggest layer is 16-18 in, 4-5 tiers [haven't quite decided yet] but no bigger than that..anywho, I keep hearing about bubble straws and have started taking Craftsy classes and they're used by a designer only he doesn't say what sizes. I went to order them online but found they come in different sizes...fat, regular, skinny, colored, clear...ugh!!  Help, I need to order them asap..

Get SPS instead. It is more secure.

I use the fat bubble straws and have never had any problem.

For such a large cake, you definitely need a good support system. I've never used SPS but several CC members swear by them. I used Cakestackers for my most recent cake it was a seamless delivery of a 4 tiered cake that was heavy and covered with delicate gumpaste flowers. But my husband helps with deliveries, since the cakes can be very heavy assembled. I know some people use bubble tea straws for small tiered cakes 3 or less but I am just not that trusting to some straws. The doweling method is always my fallback too. But I use wooden or heavy plastic dowels, including a center dowel for transporting.
