Good Morning Cake Community!

This is the week of the crazy idea requests I think... I have someone who wants me to put the Chicago Bears Symbol peaking out of the fondant covering of the cake. So it looks like bear claws have torn the fondant and that's what you see in between the rips. It is going to be a small image off on the side of the cake as a surprise addition to the cake. What can I do to protect the image behind the fondant when I cover the cake and then cut in the rips? I am worried I am going to destroy the picture in the process and have to scrap all of my work and start all over...

Thank you thank you thank you...

I saw a tutorial of someone doing this with a spiderman photo.  I think she used a piece of cardboard cut to size  and parchment paper over the photo.  She cut the strips of fondant like she wanted them and then removed both the paper and cardboard. Does that make sense? I'll see if I can find her blog again!

that is a tutorial I would love to see! My fondant for this cake is not white, so I am worried about color bleeding into the edible image as well. It's going to be a "long strange trip" getting this cake done!

I could not find the original tutorial I was talking about! I did find these two and they seem close enough!

Maybe you could get a few ideas from them!  The original tutorial I spoke of not only used parchment paper but also a small piece or card stock to protect the image.  Or maybe put the image in the rips after you've made them?? HTH!
