Is wheat considered a nut?

I'm making a cake for a friend and her daughter is allergic to nuts.  I'm using the vanilla box cake mix by Betty Crocker. The box states it has wheat and milk ingredients. I know this is a silly question but is wheat a part of the nut family?

wheat is a grain. not a nut

but I would not feed someone with allergies anything from a mix- or anything that processed. you have no idea if the factory where it was package/processed has been contaminated with any types of nuts etc.

does your friend know you're baking from a box mix (for her allergic child)?

I'd let her know about it, if not, just to be safe.

No she doesn't know that i was gonna use the box. But I thought about it and will be baking it from scratch. I don't want to take any chances either. So glad I asked! Thank you so much for replying! icon_smile.gif happy 4th!

Cherrybrook Kitchen makes allergy-friendly mixes if you don't want to bake from scratch. You should be able to find them at Whole Foods.

My friend's granddaughter has a corn allergy. When I bake for them I have the mom read the ingredients, including the brands I use, in my recipe first, just to be on the safe side.
