How do I dry out my fondant ON the cake?

I'm making a Coach purse cake that is getting picked up tomorrow at noon.  The cake is nearly finished, it just needs the purse handles attached and the "C" patterned painted on.  Last time, I made a stencil out of a cereal box and painted it on that way.  The only problem, it's rainy here and between that and the condensation from topping a cake out of the fridge immediately with fondant, my fondant is now so damp that it's sticky to the touch.  Any ideas on how to "dry out" the cake so that I can even touch it to paint the C's?

This is sort of second-hand advice, but I've seen people here suggest sitting it in front of a fan.

Putting it in front of a fan and giving it about 30 minutes to a hour and it should dull back down.  If I am in a time constraint I have actually rubbed powdered sugar over the entire cake to absorb the moisture which has worked pretty good.
