Please help! I make a lot of Red Velvet cakes and it is rather costly to keep buying the 1 oz bottles of red food color in the grocery store. I once was able to buy 8 oz bottles, but the store has since stopped selling anything but the 1 oz bottles. Does anyone know where I can buy 8 oz bottles or larger to have on hand so I don't have to keep going to the grocery store and paying so much? Any and all help/advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance!
You can use paste or gel coloring. It does not have to be liquid. You will have toplay around a bit to find how much is the 'right' amount to use. The recipe will not have to be changed due to that little bit less liquid.
Just remember pastes/gels are MUCH strongerr in color so you will use far less. Probably about 1/2 teaspoon - start w/that and see if you want to use less or more.
Here, or lots of other online places: http://www.globalsugarart.com/americolor-red-red-soft-gel-paste-13-ounces-p-22300.html
If this is not your usual brand, you might have to adjust the quantity of colouring you use. Gel pastes are generally more concentrated than the liquid ones at regular grocery stores.
