Has anyone made a cake like this?

I'm trying to decide how best to make the petals on this cake.  If anyone has made one and can pass on the "how to", I would be so grateful!

I can't see the cake because I don't belong to the Knot and I don't do Facebook either.

There. Their. They're not the same.

I hope I die before "your" becomes the official contraction of "you are."

You need to post an actual picture. You can not see the picture if you're not signed into the knot.

I have made that design a couple of times. The pictures are in my gallery. I made each petal individually and then attached them individually to the cake. Once I used gel to attach them and once I used royal icing. They both worked equally well. Below are the links from my facebook page.

Hope this help you.

I just made one of these last weekend. I think I made like 80 or so petals, ranging in size from small to large. I just use circular cutters and ruffled the edges with the ball tool and foam mat. I made the center flower by using the smallest round cutter I had, softened the edges and scrunched it up a bit. Then used 3 small petals behind that, and so on until you have the full effect of the burst. I attached with white chocolate.

A compromise is the art of dividing a cake in such a way that everyone believes he has the biggest piece.

Oops - sorry about the link!  I hadn't thought of that.

I'm assuming I need to make the petals out of gumpaste - right?  Or would the fondant I'm covering the cake with work if I made them enough ahead of time that they could dry?

Thanks in advance for all the advice!

Gumpaste would be your best bet. GL. HTH. Don't forget to post a pic when you're done.

Sorry so slow in expressing my gratitude for your help! I'm working on the petals now and it's going smoothly. I'll post pics after I recover from the wedding. (It's my daughter's!!)

Can those gumpaste petals be attached on a BC cake?

The tutorial I watched on YouTube showed her attaching them to a buttercream cake.
