Hey all,

I'm just branching into sheet cakes, my question is how much batter does it take to make a 1/2 sheet cake?  I use a modified version of the 1234 cake recipe.

It doesn't take long to learn how much batter needed for each pan :) Instead of measuring by the cupful (or other) - OH! how messy! - just fill each pan 2/3rds full.

When you say 1/2 sheet it's hard to answer your ? because many different sized pans are called a 1/2 sheet :(

The batter of one boxed mix will be enough for any ONE of the following: 1/4 sheet AKA: 12x8x2; 10" round; 8" sq; 10" heart and most of Wilton's special shaped pans.

For a 12x16x2 use 2 mixes; or ONE of the following: 14"round; 12"sq;

A 9x13x2 used 1 1/2 as does any ONE of the following: 12"round; 10" sq.

One way to remember is to write on the bottom or side of the pan w/a permanent marker :)

Okay, my cake pan is 12x18x2 so 2 batches or a batch and a half might work. Cool beans!  Thanks for the tip on writing the amount on the bottom! icon_smile.gif
