My niece is getting married and I am doing the cake. I have only been doing cakes for a couple of years now and still have a lot to learn.  She wants a lot of "Bling" but does not like the non edible bling ribbon that you see on cakes all the time. I found soft edible diamonds on line so I ordered them. They are like clear gummy diamonds.  The problem is when you put them on a white cake they look like a yellowish dot no sparkle. Has anyone used these before?  The instructions say to paint the spot where the diamond goes with silver paint or luster dust. I did, let it dry and attached the diamond like instructed. Ugh...is there a trick I don't know about. Or another way to Bling up this cake. Am I out all this money on these things that don't bling? Thanks in advance....

I had the same question a few months back...it was suggested to paint them with vegetable oil.  Although it didn't appear to change the look much at the time, in the photos I took, the bling really showed up.  HTH
