HI there everyone!

Well, my week was relaxing. I didn't do much all week except bake for Father's Day. I'll be decorating that one tomorrow. Here is the last cake I had last week:

And this is the photo she sent me after she set it all up for the party on Saturday.

I think it turned out great! What cakes are you guys doing for Father's Day? Mine is a hex 8 inch two layer with pistachio creme filling, frosted in buttercream and the top will look like a "putting green" with a hole, flag and putter. My hubby's a golfer. I'll post photos this week so you all can see!

I have a mickey mouse cake I'm making for a friend's son as a just because cake that I need to have done by Monday. Haven't even started it yet.  Can't figure out what to do yet.  It's just going to be a one tier small cake so I guess something will come to me.  It's going to be chocolate cake with cookies and crème filling.

That's adorable I do know that it's going to have to be just a one layer cake and not to terribly big. I'm going to be mailing it so it's also going to have to be flat. But I just love that cake.

Hello everyone,  Cat I love your cakes.  I'm the same way, just doing Father's Day work and they are not exciting.  The most exciting is a Black Forest Cake, Yippee!!

I had lots of 6" and 8" cakes, about 5 dozen cupcakes, 15 dozen chocolate covered strawberries.

And argh... a customer emails me and ask if she can change her order.  She wants to downsize from a qtr sheet to an 8"  The only reason I am saying yes is because I can cut the qtr sheet in 2 and I had made a few extra rounds.

Otherwise no way Jose!!!

We are almost done so  I can enjoy the day with my dad and siblings eating fried chicken at Knotts Berry Farm. Yeah........

Love your cakes Cat!

Knott's Berry farm! I've always wanted to go there. One day we will make it back to the west coast. My hubby is an amusement park enthusiast and it is one of the places on his amusement park bucket list he made for me. Yep, he wants me to visit his best of the best one day.

I'm doing my first wedding cake. It is fun and scary! It's hilarious because I've spent all this time trying to get the perfect looking cake, classes on fondant covering, buttercream smoothing, ganaching, and practicing so I could feel comfortable doing a wedding cake.  I finally accepted my first wedding order and they want to go rustic. It hard not to want to make it look nice, neat, and smooth. I know I'm not going to sleep tonight, wondering if the cake collapsed in the fridge.

I'm also getting to do my first zebra print cake. I've also wanted to do one, but seeming as most of my cakes are for smaller kids with food allergies, the chance just hasn't been there. I can't wait to finish so I can upload the picture of this one.

Finally, the kids want to make dad some "star" cookies for father's day, so I'm whipping up some shortbread cookie dough so the flavors get a chance to go through. I'll spend the day tomorrow decorating cookies with the boys after my deliveries.

Hi Cat and everyone ,

Lovely cake Cat , looked great all set up at the party.

My cake for the week went yesterday , So I am haiving a Saturday off, Tomorrow I am going to be working on my competition cake for the State Cake decorating association's big show next week.

This is the cake I did for a Graduation two Doctors a brother and sister .I really liked it , it is a gluten friendly mudcake with choc butterscotch flavoured ganache. The client however was disappointed because I put the names on the board and not on top of the cake . There was no way that many letters were going to fit on an eight inch cake. They barely fitted on the 12 inch board. I was really upset when she left as I had worked really hard to incorporate all the things she wanted into the design and she didn't even notice , just whinged about the writing.

tDovewings , Good luck with your first wedding cake . My first one was for my best friend and she wanted a rustic look too . I will check back for the pics later.

Our Father's day isn't until September here. So nothing extra for that this week.

Ginn, I haven't been to Knott's since I was a kid living in LA. We are headed that way in November for my husband's 50th. Doing Disney for 3 days then gonna do a day at Knott's. He's a coaster freak so he can't wait! LOL!

As for the change order, I'd have said sure but it doesn't change your price.

Tdovewings, I'd love to say that making wedding cakes gets easier but I have to say that I still hold my breath till I get the cake to the venue. I hate the stress but I love the look of wedding cakes so I keep on making them! LOL!

And I gather you mean zebra cake on the inside? I'm making one this week that it zebra on the outside! LOL!

Chelle, I love your cake...all those details. And how cool that they both graduated at the same time! Sorry your client wasn't as thrilled. If you had tried to put the names on the cake nothing else would have fit. SIGH.

This upcoming week I am making a baby shower cake. It is red velvet which I can't stand but the client is crazy about. I have one recipe I have been told is amazing, I'll take their word on that<G>. But the outside will be fun to decorate!

Tdovewings, I'm sure it is going to look great.  Your other cake works are very nice so this will be no different.

Chelles, Awesome cake,  I totally understand how it made you upset, but you did a great job nontheless.

We are not staying for the park, the restaurant while it is park of the park is on the outside.  I take my family for one big family outing during the Christmas Holidays. Toys for Tots and Knox work together to get donations of toys.  You buy a toy from their list which cost you a fraction of the cost but you get admission to the park.  A true Win Win for everyone.

Anyway, we're just going for their famous chicken dinner.

Good Evening everyone,

I have my first EVER square buttercream wedding cake for tomorrow..... My nerves are going bonkers. "Knock on wood" All 3 tiers are frosted, filled and smoothed and in the fridge ready to be stacked tomorrow am. I am Sooo nervous I likely won't sleep tonight worrying about every possible bad thing that could happen. I really am not sure why I am stressing as i have done several round tiered buttercream cakes.... Ugh who knows. Other than that I have a Camo wedding cake with 8 dozen cupcakes and a close friends Oil Rig birthday cake for tomorrow evening. I am very much looking forward to an evening of friends. It has been a long few weeks and the next few are going to be even longer.

Cat: That Mickey cake is so happy looking. I know that sounds silly but I am not really sure how to describe it otherwise. I would also say the same thing about the change in order size on such short notice.

Jadelogic: I LOVE those cakes. So pretty.

Chelle: The cake looks great, such a shame that they were disappointed about something so minute. You should email her the cake wrecks blog:) Haha

Thanks Ladies for the advice, I didn't give her that much off, I do want her to be happy tho because she gave me 2 other orders.  I got her deposit but trust me it won't be happening to often.  The other cake I will split and make more money from it in the long run.

Jadelogic, Beautiful little cake, with the bow and all, nice cupcakes,

Brettley, you do nice work so your cake is going to be gorgeous.

Lakeylake, oh... German Chocolate, haven't had any in the longest time and your looks scrumptious.

Brettley,

As I said, I never really sleep the night before a wedding cake delivery. In fact, we have a little routine where, once we have delivered the cake, we get back in the car, high five each other and say "Made it to the Judging table!" LOL!

Thanks about the Mickey cake. Parker was overjoyed, just kept pointing and yelling MICK MICK MICK over and over again with the biggest smile. When it came time to eat a piece he decided to go hands free and just stick his face into his plate...hysterical!

I only have one more wedding cake this summer. I took a good deal of the summer off for a move that isn't going to happen now (deal fell through today) but have lots of birthday cakes and one anniversary cake that will be a lot like a wedding cake. I'm sure now that I'm available I will have those free weeks booked in no time. If not then I'll have more demo cake time and that is always a good thing.

I'm off to bed now...I'll check back in tomorrow morning and hope that even more people will have stopped by and left a note and maybe some photos!

AI had the same problem with a cake i did recently, it also was for a brother and sister but it was for their Birthday. They wanted all of these things incorporated on the cake but their was absolutely no room to even put a short name much less 2 Really long names so i made up a board that matched the cake and adde cupcakes etc. And their names It was a Hawaiian beach theme So i made seashells out of chocolate and made it look like sand and stuff and it really looked great. They were very pleased but not at first when they found out there was no room on the cake. You just got to do the best you can. Lol your cake looks great!!!

Heat the cream until it just begins to boil.

Lakey, that is one rich looking ganache recipe!! YUMMY! I will definitely be saving THAT in my recipe file! Thank you SO much for sharing it!

Brenda, Welcome! I would LOVE to see the beach cake you described if you have a photo. I'm a Beach Baby and beach/luau/ocean themed cakes are my absolute favorites. Stop in whenever you like. I know many just read and never post and that is perfectly ok too!

So I do have a question for everyone? How many of you have blogs or websites? I have a weekly cake blog and was thinking that it would be great (since I have weeks when I don't have cakes to share on the blog) to be able to feature you guys and your work instead! So if you have a blog or a website please PM me here with the information if you'd like to be featured at some point on my blog?

Thanx!

Brenda, what a nice cake, hopefully they came to their senses and was as thrilled with the cake as I was.

It was a crazy Saturday. After my deliveries I decided to do some much needed grocery shopping with the boys. Well my twins (2-years), who didn't eat anything, went into full blown anaphlyactic shock 30 minutes into our shopping trip. Needless to say we spent the rest of the Saturday at the hospital after a frightening ambulance ride. We know they are deathly allergic to dairy, but this was just bizarre because they had nothing to eat. The doctor thinks dairy vapors may have been in the air at the store.

Back to cake...my first wedding cake. It's a dairy-free and nut-free white cake, with alternating layers of organic raspberry preserves and white chocolate frosting. The cake was 12" and 9". I really would have loved to put a third tier on, but it wasn't a local wedding and they were afraid to transport three tiers on a 2 hr drive. I hope I get more wedding cakes next year, this year I have three total. It was a nice change of pace from the kid party cakes.

Here's the animal print cake I was speaking of earlier. The mom had a shirt made for the birthday girl, so the middle of the cake was made to replicate the shirt. I added the side print and the flower because it was just so blank with the 1/2 sheet.

Here's to a great next week! I mostly have the week off, I'll be starting on some pieces for a 4-tier wedding cake and my first icing smiles cake for the last weekend in June.

Tdove, I have never heard of a severe dairy allergy before, and dairy "fumes"??? Wow, what scary stuff for you and your family!

The flower was the perfect touch for the side of the cake! It really set it off and balanced the cake perfectly!

APosted a picture on a "How do I?" Thread but I was working on this

bottom square 12" is vanilla with vanilla buttercream and raspberry, as is the 10" circle and 5" round. The ball is a chocolate Madeira filled with ganache. The church is made completely out of gumpaste and is 4" by 5 inch at the base and i can't remember height
