So, I've been decorating cakes just as a hobby for about a year now. And I'm wanting to step things up, maybe get my own business. The only thing I'm having trouble with is how much to charge for each cake? Is there a specific way you guys calculate how much to charge? I've been asking friends, some are saying I'm charging too much, and some are saying I'm not charging enough. Really stressing me out. :P I've got some cakes here, how much would you charge for something like these?

ABeautiful work! Odds are you're not charging enough.

I can tell you what I would charge for one of those cakes but it won't help you as we don't live in the same area. It's kind of like asking how much a house costs (even if you show a picture of a specific house, it depends on the market rate). I saw a reality show once where someone bought a house for one million dollars. In my area, the same house would go for around $250 thousand.

Call your local bakeries, pretend to be a customer (we've all done it) and ask what they charge.

Btw, what price did you put on these cakes?

beautiful work!  Do as Jason instructed, you'll be surprised at just what your work is worth.  You deserve every penny.

A lot of people don't understand how much work goes into these cakes. They see the price and they get shocked. Which is why I've been second guessing if I'm charging too much. For the Louis Vuitton, it was small, about 6"x6" I charged $90. For the second cake (zebra 8"), $110. and for the 3rd cake, $130. I know I didn't charge enough for the last cake because of the amount of time I put into it. Just out of curiosity, how much would you charge?

Really hard to quote a price because as others have said, it really varies.  I am still fine tuning pricing myself.  But, based on what you said you charged, I would say you undercharged.  Those cakes are beautiful!!  You have talent, charge for it!  :)
