Will Gumtex harden fondant like tylose does?

Ugh, there aren't many supply stores around here and they are all out of tylose!

Help!

I always use gumtex and it seems to do the job, but I think I'll pick up some tylose when I get a chance because there must be a reason everyone uses that instead of gumtex which is much easier to find.
