Hi there, this question is mostly for uk residents, but i'd be interested to know the answer for other countries aswell. I'm wondering where retailers buy their display cakes from? Would anyone be interested if I supplied this service? Thanks in advance, Victoria, cake tales and dreams x
What kind of retailers? Do you mean bakeries or custom cake studios? If so, I would think that they would make their own. I know I do because that's how I show off my work. But perhaps you mean different kinds of shops...
ADisplay cakes are there to show off your own skill level and the things you can create. It does no good for a bakery to show off someone else's work.
Here's a scenario: Baker A shows off Baker B's work claiming it as their own. Baker A takes an order based on Baker B's skill level and fails miserably... It just can't end well unless Baker A has the same skill level of Baker B; in which case, baker A would not need Baker B's services and would just make the display cake themselves.
Thanks guys, but i wasn't thinking for bakeries. I was thinking more along the lines for cook shops or other similar retailers who don't bake their own goods, but perhaps to show what can be done with the equipment. Does that make more sense? Thanks for your replies!
There are companies that make plastic display foods (not just cakes and sweets, but also fruits, veggies, meats, cheeses, etc). Real food has a short shelf life so using plastic foods is worth the initial investment for retailers.
