HELP! we used piping gel and fondant melting

We are doing a cake with a water theme effect, so the cake has been butter creamed and then we put blue piping gel to make a water effect, we put fondant lettering on top and it melted over night.  any suggestions

The moisture from the buttercream will make the fondant melt.  If you need to have fondant shapes touching buttercream, try coating them with some melted chocolate where the two icings meet to provide a protective barrier.

I don't know exactly what happened, but I can assure you that I've done HUNDREDS of cakes that had fondant motifs placed directly on bc. They NEVER ever melted. I only use commercial fondant.

its not melting on the buttercream..sorry i may have not been clear, we are putting wording onto a cake with fondant, but it is going on top of the piping gel. We put the lettering on to the gel and left it over night. This morning the letter were melting into the gel. 

We are doing a ocean look with the piping gel

Hmm, never tried that.  I think I'd change the design, or use something non-edible for whatever the message is . . . And of course inform the client that the message is non-edible.

Try this I often make water theme cakes with fondant and never had the fondant melt
 
1/3 cup of water.
1/3 lemon juice.
1/4 cup of sugar
1x sachet of powdered gelatine. About 10g
 
Dissolve the gelatine in a little of the water until spongy
Gently heat the remaining water and lemon juice with the sugar until the sugar dissolves. 
Add the gelatine mix, heat until completely dissolved.
At this point add colour if desired.
 
Cool, use when still slightly runny as this mix will set firm.
Looks really good if you put a little bit of edible glitter in it.

Attached are some photos of cakes with "water" If the mixture sets before you can use it just gentle warm it until it starts to melt but make sure that it's cool before you put it on your cake.

Wooow theese cakes are just so nice and inspirational. Any recipes out there how to make the gel icing. I live in malta so wilton roducts are not easy to find and relatively too expensive to order from abroad :/

I soon going to be making my 4th creative fondant cake for my moms birthday, and till now have thought of including dolphines and maybe create a kinda scene with these creatures and hales etc ive got book on how to make fondant animals icon_smile.gif and so this gel seems to bcreate a great water effect which i would really like to include in the cake icon_smile.gif im hoping for a 2 tier.

So any help with a recipe pls? And is the gel to be piped/ spread over bettercrea directly or fondant ?
