My granddaughter is having a 15ra party and wants a wonder mold doll cake but she wants it little taller and maybe use a dollar store doll instead of the sold at michaels for this pan. has anyone ever done this.?
You can add a round cake to the bottom of the wondermold cake to make it taller. You can either make it the same diameter as the wondermold or put a bigger base below it. If you do make a larger base be sure to cut a circle in the bottom of the wondermold cakeboard for the feet to fit thru into the base.
Wondermold is VERY short for a dress. I make a double layer that matches the bottom/widest diameter. I add about 3 1/2 inches to the dress that way and it looks great.
A doll cake looks best when the dress is very tall and flowing
To use a whole doll you have to be VERY! careful to cut a hole in the center of the cake that is *JUST* big/wide enough for her hips. Wrap the legs/body to waist in plastic wrap before inserting into the cake.
If your hole is not wide enough pushing the doll in will cause the cake to crack apart so do be careful. Making it toowide will allow the doll to wiggle/move about once finished :(
I used a Disney Store Rapunzel doll in a cake and those legs are really in that doll's body. I didn't want to ruin it so I just left them on and wrapped them in cling wrap like the other poster said. I'll going to add it to my gallery.
