I was hoping someone could help me find out to do the zig zag stripes one the bottom tier of the cake. I know you would lay your colored fondant first but I am just confused on how you go about getting the gold stripes on there. I am trying to do to some new things with cakes and think this might be fun!

It was made by Charm City Cakes.

Use the scroll button on your mouse to find it or the scroll bar at the bottom of the page.

Since the chevron pattern is flat, I don't think it is cut fondant (there are lots of cakes out there with fondant chevrons). Instead, it looks to me like they masked off the chevron pattern (food safe tape? Press-n-Seal plastic wrap?), then put real gold leaf on the chevron part, then removed the mask.

I think it was taped off and airbrushed.  Same as the stripes.   I don't believe it is gold leaf because it it too smooth and perfect looking.  Also the first and second tiers also contain the same colour and consistency of gold.

Definitely airbrushed.

when you say taped off? what type of tape do you use and you mean it comes off the cake? I was wondering how people airbrushed certain aspects of there cakes and not others, and then i see this thread about taping off a cake.  Anyone do this? and what type of tape to buy, then you stick it on and it peels off without pullin the cake??

On the Craftsy site, one of the decorators uses Scotch Tape on her fondant covered cake before painting it to get her design.  I think it was Collette Peters, not positive though.  There is a free video of her using this technique floating around.  If I have time I will try to find it.  But I'm sure others have seen it too.

I knew I'd seen something about this before:

Also found this:

Also from the web: "Teflon plumber's tape is used all the time to fill the threads of galvanized water pipes to prevent leaking. It is food safe."

Sorry for the double post. CC won't let me delete one.
