AHow would a tree on top of a cake be anchored and made? I'm assuming RKT? I wish I could show you a pic of what I'm going for but I can't upload pics from my phone. The cake is a simple green round with a white picket fence going around and the family walking around the treehouse. They appear to be plasticky but the tree and windows, doors, windows etc are modeling chocolate or fondant. Thanks in advance!
I think I would start by making the basic tree out of RKT and then cover with modelling chocolate to you can play with detail. You can make leaves out of the chocolate and stick to the branches. I would put a cake round (cut to the shape of the tree and attach with a strong royal Icing. Whatever direction you take, just be sure to have support dowels under your tree to it doesn't sink into the cake. :)
AThat's kind of what I was thinking...I figured also I could drive a dowel down the center as well. The picture she showed me was more like a big leaf covered ball so I was worried about modeling chocolate leaves falling off, maybe fondant leaves would stick better?
Can you by any chance upload the picture to this thread? Fondant on fondant works and chocolate on chocolate will work also - you just use melted choc. in a piping bag as glue and chocolate on fondant works but a picture of what you're trying to do would be very helpful.

Anyway, I would try to make the leaves a little thinner to lighten the tree. You could easily just wrap the trunk in fondant and give it some lines with a viener tool. If you plan to do a fence, let the fence posts set up a little before you put them on so they will be straight.
