AIm completly new to baking...well ive made a few cakes but never that good presentation wise.. Id like to try taking up sugar craft.. Has anybody got any good advice to help me start?? Thankyou in advance xx
If you are looking to start playing with gumpaste to make flowers, I would suggest craftsy.com. Actually, they have a lot of classes on cake decorating. I had never used gumpaste or made flowers before and tried one of their classes. I learned a lot for being a total newbie. I like them because I am a very visual learner and I can watch them at my leisure and repeat them as often as I want. Other options would be to do a google search for tutorials on what you want to learn to make.
Good Luck.
This really depends on where You want to begin. Assess what you know and what you Need to know with your basics. Piping, fondant or gum paste - anything you choose takes playing and practice, practice, practice.
There is also the option of taking Wilton classes from your local Michael's. UTube has many tutorials and have a look at the tutorials here on CC? Don't discount the many thousands of cake decorating books. Toba Garret, Alan Dunn (flowers), Nicolas Lodge (flowers and more), Eddie Spence (royal icing) Lindy Smith, Collette Peters and the list is endless. Also there are dvd's from Sugar Delites, Baking Arts (modeling chocolate), Sharon Zambito and again the list goes on... I think Craftsy is having a sale this weekend.
I realize I gave you a lot but Sugar craft has many directions.
AIt depends really on what direction you want to start off in, and if you want to pay for classes or not. There are loads of really good tutorials on YouTube, from the basics of covering a cake with fondant to making gumpaste flowers. And the key is to practise. A LOT! The more you do, the better you'll get!
