Im making a cake similar to this for a bride and i dont know how i would do the burlap and lace?

Would you take brown fondant and texture it like in the photo, then place real lace on top and then pipe the details with royal icing?

Thanks

It looks like they used real burlap, which I wouldn't suggest. You could use the rubber shelf liner to make an imprint on it and then fray it with an exacto knife. Then wrap the lace fabric around it and pipe it just like you said.

AWow, neat cake. I don't think that is real burlap at all. Not sure if they painted the impressions with white or started with white & painted just too not creases with brown.

AI will say I have experimented with making burlap. I used brown fondant & a thick non skid material. A bit of petal dust made it really look like burlap.

That looks like fondant with cheesecloth placed over it, then sprayed with brown.

That gives you a better close up, not real. It doesn't even look textured, just painted, like they laid something on top and airbrushed it.

If we assume scrumdiddlycakes is correct, and I think she is, begin with white fondant, stretch cheesecloth over the fondant, press the cheesecloth into the fondant, airbrush or paint over the cheesecloth with the brown, peel off the cheesecloth.

Yeah. Close up view, definitely not real.

But according to the link scrumdiddlycakes gave us it implies the tulle is real with overpiping.

"edible burlap ribbon wrapped in tulle and hand piped embroidery"
