I am having trouble finding the copyright owner for Yo Gabba Gabba on google. Is there certain key words that you normally type in?

Thanks for your help icon_smile.gif

Great! Thanks Pyro!

Wildbrain is who I came up with as well. I usually just do a search for the character's name, find the official site, and look for any legal links like a copyright notice, terms of use, or privacy policy.

Did you have any luck? I just emailed them from the "contact us" link on their website requesting permission.

Aw, that's too bad. This is for my son's 4th birthday next month :( If I don't get a response, I guess I'll be using bought cake toppers or toys... or just not post the pics! I'll let you know if I hear anything.

In my experience it's usually more effective to call the company. It's a lot easier to ignore an email than someone you're talking to in real time.

I read somewhere that you are allowed to make a character cake as long as you are not making money off of it. so if that is true, you should be fine to make the cake for your son since you're not going to sell it to him. its just something I read on Cake Central you might want to verify that.

Thanks for the tip Jason! I will give them a call then.

Who said I wasn't going to sell it to him? icon_lol.gif

It's still considered infringement if you don't have permission and you could still get into trouble if the copyright owner finds out about it, but as long as a picture of the cake is not posted publicly the risk of getting caught is very low.

Do you have to get permission each time you want to make the same character? Or can you just get it once?
For instance, I call the people who own pikachu ask for permission, they say yes. Imake a pikachu cake and then every little kid wants a pikachu cake, can I offer a pikachu cake?
Hey everybody! Check out google.com ! This is clearly an attempt to direct traffic onto that site and away from cake central. Because everyone knows you can only have one browser open!

Depends on what the copyright owner says...if they grant permission for one cake you have to ask each time, but if they allow you to make any number of copies of the character you don't.
