im making a cake for my neices 1st birthday and its going to be at a water park, the cake will be under a tent thing but the outside will be like 90 degrees. Im looking for a frosting that will hold up against the heat. If i cant i will just have to leave the cake at the house and go get it later, but i was really hoping to have the cake out for the looks. well thank you (:
In 90 degree weather....nothing will hold up more than 5 minutes. I would go back to the house for dessert. It will look like the wicked with on the wizard of oz meltinggggg
AI live in Florida and deal with this all the time. Here's the recipe I use: 2 + 2/3 cups shortening (Crisco), 2/3 cup water, 2 tsp. clear vanilla, 2 tsp. clear butter extract & 10 cups powdered sugar. Mix shortening with water & flavorings and 2 or 3 cups sugar. Gradually add remaining sugar adding more liquid if needed.
It's not a true buttercream but it will stand in 90 degree weather and it crusts nicely and easy to work with. Most everyone is happy with the flavor. Of course, you can use any flavorings you like.
HTH. Good Luck, Janet. :)
@ddaigle lol (x @janjess Thanks for the recipe ill definitely try it ! (: @leah_s Thanks so much! im gonna try i read really good reviews ! (:
Yes I used indydebbi's for a cake that was outside in the heat last year...held up great! I didn't use homemade fondant though, I find that premade (I use fondarific) held up well too! Good luck
