Hello kitty topper

I'm making a hello kitty cake for my niece's birthday party. Nothing 3D. I'm just making her face to lay on top of the cake. Should I make her face with gum paste or fondant? Anyone have any recommendations of what works better?

I would do fondant.  Gumpaste typically gets very hard and doesn't taste very good.  If you plan to have the topper cut and eaten instead of removed from the cake before cutting, fondant all the way!

Why not do a butter cream transfer...I've never done one but they look really neat if done right.

Thank you both!! I think I'll try both options and see how they work. I still have a few days to play around with it. I'm make flowers from gum paste using the wilton molds but couldn't decide on a medium for HK. I also have to make a tractor for another cake in 2 weeks. So I'll see what works better. Decisions, decisions!!

Here is what I ended up with. I used the FBT for the cake since it turned out pretty good. And kept the fondant HK for the tablescape. You can't see it but I also made a ladybug out of fondant for my top cupcake. I think it turned out pretty good. But I still have a long way to go!! Thank you both for the recommendations!
