Fondx Vs Satin Ice!

Hello everyone!

 

So I made my first fondant covered cake this weekend and I used Satin Ice. I found it tore easily and was hard to work with (which could be due to my lack of experience) icon_redface.gif. Anyway, my issue was with the taste. I worked hard to make SMBC and cakes with high quality ingredients, and the fondant just didn't taste good. And I definitely wasn't the only one who thought that. Is Fondx better tasting and easier to work with? ALSO! If you have any other recommendations for fondant that I haven't mentioned please let me know.

Hi there, I have never used fondx, not sure if it is available in Canada, but I only use Satin Ice now. It is an awesome fondant, I used to use Wiltons but was very dry and a little more chalenging to work with. Since the satin ice is a liitle more soft and flexible, maybe you rolled it to thin. It does take practice and you will get better at it. I also started using the mat to roll my fondant and this is an awesome product that would make covering your cakes a lot easier. Good luck!

So The Mat is really good to work with? I was actually looking into getting it just because I read so many good reviews, but then there were some people who said it wasn't so good. Thanks for all the advice!

 

Have you ever tried Fondarific?? I see your from Canada, theres a website called Flour Confectioners and they ship Fondx and other supplies for pretty good prices if you want to check them out icon_smile.gif

I use white FONDX and color it for everything except Black, Hot Pink & Brown...then I use Satin Ice.   I like both products.   Most of the fondant on my cakes are used as accents and I'm sure just peeled off.   The satin ice brown tastes like a tootsie roll.    I think FONDX and Satin Ice both taste good...those that don't it, just don't know how to handle the taste (texture) of fondant.

I used Satin Ice for years, but found it tore very easily.  And a couple of times I got a "bad" batch, where it was a nightmare to work with and pretty much unusable.  I switched to Fondx about a year ago and it is so much better!

Thank you so much for posting this!!  I have been wanting to try Carma after all the great reviews around here but the obscene shipping prices from other sites has been holding me back.  Totally affordable from this company though!  :)

My go to fondant is fondarific...I have used FondX the pure white one and have had good results, I didn't find it to be as soft as fondarific...I only use Satin Ice brown (chocolate).  I find that Satin Ice to tear easily as well, especially if I color it....I use wilton for decorations only it dries too hard. I'm not sure with regard to taste because I never eat fondant...way too sweet for me!
