I need to make a tree trunk cake. I have seen several pics and tutorials on tree trunk cakes, but I have not seen one for the style that I am needing to make (by the end of this week---eek!)

Most of the pics are for trunks that have rough bark.

The one I need to make is smoother. I have attached a pic. I would greatly appreciate any help. My cake will be covered in buttercream, not fondant.

AI'm kind of new at this meaning still many things to learn.. I want to say you should make a dark layer of icing then the blueish color. Then use some thing to pull across exposing the darker color that would be my thinking...good luck

I did a birch bark cake with cream cheese frosting. There's different ways you can do it, I frosted a base color, let it crust and then frosted the top color. (You can't tell a big difference in the pic, but the base color was ivory and the top coat was white.) After it set, I went back and used my gumpaste pick tool to scrape off the bark lines that I wanted. Then I went back with food coloring and painted some of the lines even darker. I didn't spend much time on it since it for our anniversary, but it was something I wanted to try out and I was pretty pleased with how easy it turned out to be! :)
