So I have been reading threads about Tylose powder and how it is supposed to make fondant rock hard for sculpting things.
I can't seem to find any Tylose powder in any craft stores near me.
Is there an alternative?? Maybe something homemade?
I bought Tylose at Michael's in the Wilton section. You can order it through Wilton online, too.
However, Tylose just makes the fondant more gumpaste-like, so if what you are looking for is a really rock hard result, just use gum paste, it dries totally hard.
I usually use a 50/50 blend of gum paste and fondant for sculpting things, it just depends on how hard you need your sculpt in the end.
Wilton sells Gum-Tex which is Gum Karaya--it does the same sort of thing as Tylose which is add stretchiness/elasticity and strength to fondant, and is the "gum" in gum paste.
Other things that are used like that are CMC (Carboxymethylcellulose--I just love to say that-lol) and Gum Tragacanth--which I believe is the original ingredient in Gum Paste, but is now pretty expensive since it comes from Iran.
