What are the going rates for wedding cake delivery charges???
I usually say that local (like within a 25 mile radius of me) is $50 but I now have a wedding 1 hour away and not sure what to charge...
I charge $1.50/mile one-way according to mapquest directions. Plus a $20 setup fee if it can be done within an hour. More, if it's an elaborate cake the requires a time consuming set up.
I charge $1.30 per mile round trip. I'm also in a kind of remote area so I frequently knock 10 miles off the round trip as long as the resulting fee still makes it worth my while.
BeesKnees, I'm just curious, why do you charge for just one way?

So if it's 30 miles one way you would charge $65 total? (60 miles - 10 miles X $1.30)
I include free delivery with wedding cakes orders.
Anyone know what florists rates are for delivery and set-up?....on average

I have a $20 minimum, for a 10 mile radius, and $1 per mile, round trip. Cupcakes or flowers at the venue are a $20 additional set up fee. Or a cake that is too big to carry by myself is $25 for my husband, and if it is too big for the both of us and has to be stacked there, it is $50 additional.
If over $100 order, delivery is free within a 20 mile radius, and $1.00 per mile after that.

Good question! I guess I consider that ride home without the stress of having a cake in the back, being able to drive fast, stop quickly and take turns like a NASCAR driver like a little vacation! I smile the whole way home and sing loudly in my car. Plus it's one of the few times that I am without my kids....mini-vacation! It doesn't bother me one bit that I am not getting paid for the ride home! Call me crazy....
If I am delivering to Cleveland from my home, it's roughly a $45 delivery charge plus the $20 setup fee. That's $65 for something that may only take me an hour and a half (I try to make about $20/hr to cover my time and supplies) plus $16 in gas give or take. I am comfortable with that. Am I missing something that I should be charging more for? Yes, of course there is car insurance and maintenance.
On the other hand, I will check other bakers in my area to see what they are charging to make sure I am on target...it's been awhile since I've scoped out the competition.

OMG!!! I am dying here!!! I am the same way, LOL!! I drive like a damn fool on the way home, grinning like the Cheshire Cat! Music blaring, and I also grab a bite to eat or an ice cream at a place that is too expensive to treat the whole family of 6 to, on a regular basis.

But it's still using up your gas. Which is not cheap these days! And how much better for you to get PAID for your little vacation! :)

Too funny!
Next question...again, just curious...why do you charge a set up fee? And what do you consider set up?
AWe also charge $1/minute for setup, in 30-minute increments. The clock starts once we arrive at the venue (or the scheduled delivery time if we are early), so if there are delays caused by someone else not being ready the customer is still responsible for paying us while we wait.
I think in the end time is money. Just as it takes time to make the cake it takes time to drive the cake there and to set the cake up. If you are doing this as a business then you charge for your time and skill. I don't really have a separate charge for set-up, it's part of the delivery - but then again, maybe I need to rethink that in the event that I am stuck there some day due to delays on other's accounts...
Suggestions on clauses for that??
