AI actually started working on a book about allergy-friendly baking including recipes for different combinations of allergies, how we structured our baking processes to avoid cross-contamination, business tips specific to that market, etc. There is a lot more involved in putting together a book than I thought (especially if you go the self-publishing route) so it's on hold for now since I don't have the time to devote to it.
Putting together a blog isn't a bad idea. At one point I was hoping to work with CC Magazine to create a column centered around business questions...last year I worked with one of their editors to put something together, and we were both happy with the results, but then the editor in chief decided not to include it for whatever reason so I'm not sure what they're doing over there.
Somehow I don't think Youtube videos about business would be very interesting. ;)

Maybe a blog right on CC? ;-D
I put together a quick experimental blog in WordPress (the link is in my signature) so we'll see how that goes.
Go Jason! Go Jason! You know I'm your #1 stan. I'ma need all other CC groupies to pick a number and get in line!
On a serious note, I love the idea of a blog, for one thing we now have a place to link the ever-pervasive pricing questions to, and secondly it provides a more comprehensive answer than most people can whip up in a CC post.
I look forward to the awesome things I know you'll have on that blog. Good luck.
I think it's a great idea. I'll read every post Jason! Someone needs to put the 'business' into the cake business websites. It helps everyone and betters the profession.
Yes. He could call it "It's Not Just Cake, The Realities of Pricing and What it's Really Like to Run a Cake Business." Or, "Why Cakes are Expensive."

Nah, I much prefer "If you ask me about cake pricing one more time...!" With the picture of Madea holding a Glock.

i think these are all great ideas. have a cake column about all the business questions, as well as all the best places for supplies. Writing a book would sell millions, you'd make a killing on that alone. Since we all cant have you to personally come to our rescue when we need something though if you made your self for hire i'm sure people would pay top dollar for this too
AI just posted the second article to my blog (the first was about pricing, this one is about copyright), right now I'm planning on writing a new article every Tuesday. Let me know if you want to see a specific topic covered in-depth in a future article.
AJason, I've seen the two blog posts you have there. Really nice work. I hope the CC community will rally around you and show some support by responding, liking and sharing your blog. You give so much to this community, and it would be nice to see folks show some love.
So as the self-appointed, uncontested President of JKFC (Jason Kraft Fan Club), I hereby DEMAND that y'all show some love. I will be taking roll. Hehehe.
AThanks for the support! The blog is a testbed for a potential future book as well, so I've included a page that allows people to contribute a small amount ($1 or $5, under the "Donate to fund future content" link at the top) to gauge the level of interest people have in paying for this type of content. Contributions are 100% optional.
AGreat posts! I would love to see a future post (or series of posts) on things people should consider BEFORE deciding to start a cake business. I feel like too many people jump into it without thinking.

AI was planning on a high level article on business planning, so that should tie in with the "before you start" angle.
What kind of information re tax laws were you interested in?

Done! I wish you great success. And when you make it big you better remember who the fan club prez is. LOL!
I'm just getting my license and a kitchen space, so I'd like to know more about tax laws for LLCs, how often you file, social security, and other things similar that I know I haven't thouht of.... I'm planning to meet with an accountant, but I'd like to know what to expect - that's something I know very little about. I guess this all ties in with the business planning.

AWhat about sales tax? I know there's no tax on food, but what about non food items like or supplies, boxes, cupcakes cups, etc
