Hi Cakers,

It has been well over a year since I baked a 6" round cake.

I cannot remember if one cake mix is enough for two 2" high pans????

I don't use any additives other than flavorings.  With the recent changes in the amount of cake mixes some manufactures are producing now, I was afraid that maybe one box might not be enough....

Thanks!

=)

One box mix is recommended for two 8" rounds so it should be enough for the 6" I would think..

I mostly bake 9x13 sheet cakes. I've found that the DH "spice" and "Swiss chocolate" mixes fill the pan quite well, but the DH and BC "white" mixes (both in the reduced size) come out a little low, at least when used as the basis for my strawberry marble cake. When I get back from my vacation, I'll be baking 2/3 of a white cake mix as a single 8x8 sheet (as a kitchen cake for myself, since my mom will be getting Swiss chocolate), to see if 1 1/3 white cake mixes would work well as a 9x13.

AOne box makes 4 c. of batter. I can make 3 nice sized layers with that.

AIf you want the full 2" per layer height on an 8" cake then I'd get 2 boxes. A 6" cake would be OK.

I agree, if it was going to be two 8" I would say go for 2 boxes or even a cake extender .. That's what I did the last time I baked a 9x13 because it was a bit thin. But since it's 6" should be totally fine
