Does anyone know how to make these edible lace pieces/doilies - so i can lay it on the cake (as opposed to piping it)?  Ive tried making sugarveil but that was hours wasted and never came out right.... is there anywhere i can buy it??  or is there a fondant mat/cutter?

thanks!

There are impression mats you can buy. Some even have the scalloped edges on them like that. Ebay has quite a few of them pretty cheap with buy it now options. I don't want to suggest one since I have never used one before.

does it have all the holes like that or just impressions?

You can get a silicone mold that will have the holes or an impression mat that will just have the impression on it.

One, possibly both, cakes were made by Sweet and Saucy:  http://www.sweetandsaucyshop.com/wedding-cakes/fondant-cakes/

You could get in touch with them and ask how the lace was done.

It's possible that they used a real doily, pressed it into a molding compound (such as Amazing Mold Putty or similar).. Then when the mold hardens, you press gumpaste or fondant into it.

Doily:

Some of those may be sold by the time you read this, but I just searched eBay for "doily."

There. Their. They're not the same.

I hope I die before "your" becomes the official contraction of "you are."
