Hello my fellow CC'ers. I would love a little insight please on how to go about stacking this cake. The balls will be Styrofoam.
HOLY COW!!!! GREAT JOB!!! (Yes, I am screaming!) So, how did you do it, because it is wonderful!
AHoly crap that's a lot of frickin cake! It looks great, too. Kudos to you, especially if you put that monstrosity together by yourself!
AI just saw your beautiful cake, You did a fantastic job! I was wondering what you came up with, if you wouldn't mind sharing? Did you use some sort of metal/plastic structure? I'm super curious to see what it looks like inside lol!
Thanks everyone, well in a nutshell, I screwed a long pole, a curtain rail actually which I double wrapped with cling film to a large round wooden board. covered the board with fondant then arranged the base cakes about six 9' cakes around the pole with a gap in the center where I put two 6' styrofoam rounds with holes in the centers through which I passed the pole. Next came the smaller 7'' rounds on top of the 9'' dowelled cakes. Next came the fondant covered and decorated styrofoam ball which I had also drilled holes into and slightly flattened the top and bottom for balance. I carved out a hole in the centers of all the cakes, dowelled them minus the topmost tier and passed the pole through them till I got to the top, then I cut off the excess pole, put the top decoration, sugar flowers, beads and voila! I was done. All side stencilling was done prior to setting up the cake. HTH.
You figured it out beautifully!!!! I would have had no advice for you because I have no idea where to begin stacking that!!! Great job!!!
Phenomenal..That would scare me to death trying to do that. How wide did the bottom turn out to be?
You did a fabulous job both decorating and stacking. Just saw post today and thought it would need a major pipe support. You came up with right ideas. ( wish there was a genius face to put here) Very curious how did you move the cake or was the stacking done at location. Even with cake dummies that cake had to be very heavy. Very smart move on wood base bottom for support for that much cake. I heard a pastry chef once say the Hardware store is your best friend...guess it's true.
Please post more of your cakes in future...
