AHey guys!!! So I need to cut out a Chicago Cub symbol for a cake this weekend. Now with my homemade fondant , EVERYTIME I use it to try and cut out symbols or letters, it stretches and is very soft. What can I do to the fondant to stiffen it up a little so when I cut it it doesn't stretch out and get all messed up? Please and thanks!

There are a variety of things you can use to "thicken" your fondant.  The easiest would be just adding more powdered sugar. I have heard of people also adding a bit of gumpaste to help it harden also. I add some Tylose powder to mine and it thickens and hardens perfectly.  Good Luck!!

Oh and the other day I read on here somewhere that someone pops their fondant in the freezer for a few seconds before carving it!  =-)

I suggest adding tylose, cmc, gum tragacanth, gum tex, a bit of the dry Wilton gum paste mix, a bit of premade gum paste, or in a pinch, Fixodent denture adhesive powder.  Any of these will make the fondant stiffer and dry quicker & harder.

With gum trag, the paste needs to sit for 24 hrs. after adding it.  Gum tex and premade gum paste are easily found in the Wilton products aisle at craft stores.
