Colored cream cheese icing?

I am donating a cake to my daughter's school tomorrow for teacher appreciation day. I made red velvet cakes and want to try the crusting cream cheese recipe I saw on this site. Can I color the icing like normal or will something with the cream cheese cause any problem, running colors, bad taste, etc? I plan on doing either a green or black to replicate a chalk board. Thanks in advance for any advice! My gut tells me it will color just fine....

I just did this last weekend. No problems at all coloring with gel colors.

Yep. I colored cream cheese icing many times in the past with liquid food coloring and had no problems. I only recently discovered gel colors, which makes life so much easier.
