I have tried everything fondant, gum paste sugar sheets to no avail. I have also tried freezing on mat as suggested on some sites. I am basically at my wits end. Anyone out there who has mastered this evil machine. I would really appreciate it, my husband gave this to me as a gift when it first came out and paid alot. I feel terrible that I don't use it Thank You Pam

I got sugar sheets to work, but had a wicked time with fondant. You have to get the settings just right to get it to cut. Try sugar sheets again, slow the speed down and go with a medium pressure. Hope this helps.

AI am new here but have been using the cricut machines for years so I hope to help you. I have been using the cricut cake with fondant and gumpaste, I just roll it out thin, run it through my pasta machine on 1, roll it thin on the mat if you don't have the pasta machine, or need it bigger. After I put a very light coat of shortening on the mat I press it down, throw it in the freezer for 10 minutes and cuts perfectly :)

I too have one of those evil machines that I rarely use. It's collecting dust in a closet. I called Cricut for help and was told if I was trying to cut anything smaller than 3" the machine would not cut "clean". They also told me to roll fondant thin and place in the freezer for 45 minutes. I need to get my Cricut out and dust it off.

If you go to my Cricut Cake board on Pinterest, you'll find some good tutorials and even a gum paste recipe designed for use with a Cricut Cake.

Thanks to all of the info.I really hope to get this to work. Naturally I thought after watching a demo. on the cricut that I was going to take it out of the box and immediately create this amazing cake without having to hand cut, mold or sculpt anything. Needless to say it did not work out that way, I am surprised that I didn't throw it out the door out of frustration. Well Thanks again and hopefully next time will be successful. Take Care

I have had some success with my ciricut cake mini. It's best if you use a pasta machine to roll it out quite thin and let it sit on the mat for about 15 minutes if you are using fondant rather than gumpaste, also a 50/50 mix of gumpaste and modelling chocolate works well.

Google Linda McClure and get her recipe for gumpaste for cutting machines.  Roll it thinly, place on mat with the smallest amount of shortening and then place in a big plastic bag (I use a black garbage bag) and then leave alone for at least1/2 an hour or longer.  Will cut out fine then.

Did you know that the Premium Icing Sheets from Icing Images were designed for this use? The whole idea was to save you time and trouble of rolling out the gumpaste and having a hit or miss after waiting all that time for it it set in the freezer.  With them, there is no rolling, waiting and then hoping you got it right and it works. While I know you can get the Cricut and other cutters to work with gumpaste and fondant, it is time consuming adn your time is money. Best of luck
