A customer saw the cake below online and wants it next week for her mother's 50th birthday. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do these wine glasses? Thanks for your time.

There are a few ways to do those.  You could sculpt them by hand out of gum paste or modeling chocolate and then cover them with luster dust.  You could also search for a mold in the shape of a martini glass, but shipping might be expensive due to your time frame.

I am sure there is a way to make them very realistic and glassy looking with Isomalt, but I am still learning about Isomalt.

Since you are short on time, I suggest using something around the house you can mold the tops of the wine glasses out of gumpaste. For me that would be a small dipping dish, like the give you at Macaroni Grill for they're olive oil.  Then roll out and form the stems. The bases could be cut from circle cutters, then use your fingers to round over the edges for a more realistic curved glass look. If you had more time, you could just get the make your own mold kit from http://www.makeyourownmolds.com/ then make a mold of a glass you want to use. You could do the wine bottle as well using the silicone from this site. Good luck, post pics when you're finished.

This may be a horrible idea, but you know your customer and budget.  Can you just buy the plastic glasses and use those?  Was the customer expecting a sugar glass and willing to pay for it, or did they just like the look and design.  Just a thought.

AYou could also do it in white chocolate instead of the isomalt or out of gumpaste.

Thanks for all the replies. @ Norasmom, I too am just now learning a little about isomalt. I'm pretty sure that would be the perfect more "realistic" solution. @ Denetteb, I will take your suggestion if I can't figure out how to do these glasses with an edible medium. I was already thinking of the plastic glasses you suggested as a backup. :) @ Keepingitreal21 thanks for the suggestions on how I can do this from gumpaste. I didn't even think of cutting the bottom of the glass out of circle cutters. I'm so excited to do this cake and will definitely post pics when it's all done. Thanks everybody!!

Create exciting displays with upside down wine glasses. Fill a glass with your favorite decorations, turn it over, and place a pillar or ball candle on top.
