How long can Butter be at room tempature?!?!

I laid out some butter the other day to get it to room temp and completly forgot about it! Is it still good??

What exactly is the other day? How hot is it in your home?

It's been 4 days and my house stays around 68 degrees (give or take depending on the day)

I'd use it for personal use, but would not for a client.

I guess it all depends on what you are using it for... At home I have a butter dish for things like toast, cooking eggs, and the like on my table that stays out on all but the hottest days that would actually melt it... I have never had it go bad... we use it before that happens... and usually the stick is there for at least a week...

 

so if anything, you can at least use it to eat yourself if you are worried instead of making icing out of it...

It's fine as long as it's still wrapped.  Butter used to always be stored outside of the fridge...

Thanks everyone for the help!  It's only 4 sticks and I think I will just use it for some icing on a family cake! It was intended for a wedding cake filling and I think I agree-better safe than sorry!  =-)

I live by what one of my nutrition instructors from Pulaski Tech said..."When in doubt, throw it out."

I wouldn't use it on a cake for someone else. (Just in good conscience) but I personally leave a butter dish on the table for toast or bread. Etc. I have all my adult life and so did my mom. and hermom. We still live to tell the tale.

What about frosting made with Crisco??
