Hi all Just would like to know in this link there is a horizontal decorating for cake , does he cut the fondant first in strips shape and then line them on wax paper ? If so when I have to put some crisco on fondant ?

Hi,

As far as I can see, they are cut and then placed on the wax paper. I don't think you'd need crisco but maybe I'm wrong.

From reading the blog what the person is doing is cutting out the fondant ribbons adding it to the wax paper so when he applies it to the cake all the stripes will be even.  Applying the Crisco to the wax paper so the fondant doesn't stick to it.

Crisco is not applied to the fondant on the cake (white).  If the fondant has dried, brush a little bit of water on the ribbon strips and they will stick nicely.

Hello everyone... I happen to see the video when it was available . This a JESICAKES's technique. On the link that you have this is most important to understand

1.Measure cake circumferance and high.

2.Roll your fondant out in a thick rope so it's easier to get it into a long rectangle the same size or bigger than your wax paper you cut earlier.

3.Once you've rolled it out at least as big as the wax paper, and nice and thin, grease up your wax paper with a smooth layer of shortening.  Lay the wax paper grease side down on top of your rolled out fondant.  Press/smooth evenly.  Cut out around the wax paper and remove excess fondant.  Flip the wax paper/fondant piece over.

4. Once you've got everything cut out, trim the side edges so they are nice and square.  When you're cutting, sometimes the edges will pull in/out, so square them up so when you join your seams together they're straight

5.THIS IS THE STEP THAT YOU ARE MISSING IN UNDERSTANDING(sorry for caps) Begin peeling off the stripes you don't need.,  so that in the wax paper you only have the strips that you need, to put on your cake!

Follow the rest of instruction.Look at the pictures well, you will understand. Also in order for the strips to adhere, wet the strips carefuly and lightly. The strips you are going to use are the ones still left on the wax paper.

Good luckthumbs_up.gif!If you need any more  help, just let me know.

Ciao!

That's what it sounds like.  Remove the stripes you don't want from the waxed paper, leaving only the ones you do want.  Then apply a mist of water to the designs or stripes on the waxed paper and apply.  One hint I have is that if your stripes are colored, try blessing them with Karo Corn Syrup instead of water and you won't get any bleeding of the colored stripes on the background.

When adhering the strips to a fondant covered cake, you can definitely just rub some shortening on the back of them.  They'll adhere to the cake and there is no chance of bleeding.
