i would use pvc pipe, the legs & arm holding the bowls might be rkt. Anmnewlin1 has a picture of the support they used for their scooby doo cake on here.

If you have never made  a cake like this, my suggestion would be to practice practice practice!!! This cake (in my opinion) is for advanced decorators. Of course I don't know what your skill level is but I hope you are able to pull this off! Best of luck.

Oh and by the way, RKT is Rice Krispy Treats. And yes, regular PVC that you get from the hardware store.

This cake is a creation done in a private tutuorial class ($$$$$$) done with the master, Mike McCarey.  You can see some info about it here:  http://pastrychik.blogspot.com/  about halfway down the page.

Without a LOT of experience and/or help (this person had both), it would be virtually impossible for even some experienced cakers to pull off.

Perhaps if you see "kung fu panda cake" on google images, you will see something cute and easier to make that your niece would be thrilled with:

WOW that cake looks very difficult. I would say maybe do a practice run of it before the birthday gets here and see how ou pull it off. It'll help you learn what to do or what not to do. Does it have to be that EXACT cake or cake you make KFP sitting or laying down instead?

AYes, regular PVC from the hardware store. It's food safe.

Start by printing the photo & drawing the structure on top of it. Then, you'll know how big & how many pipes you need.

My dear there is a lot information, tutorial and ideas FREE over websites (Youtube.com), do some searches...and Always BELIEVE in YOURSELF...You don't need to be a master to do any cake...I know a lot people that they never made a cake before and they ending with a master piece...my sister is one of them...my mouth was wideeee open with her second cake ever...It was the whole head of Gene Simmons from KISS...the details...everything was amazing...well Good Luck...

I agree 100% about believing in yourself. Hopefully chocaholikk will be able to pull it off! But comparing a cake carved into a head shape with a cake like the one pictured is like night and day! The head cake may have had awesome details but the structure is so totally different in both cakes. I'm not saying that your sister's Gene Simmons cake was not fabulous, I'm sure it was. But it can not comapre to the difficulty of making this Panda cake. Chocoholikk I do wish you the best of luck, and if you decide to make this cake, please post pictures! I would love to see it.

ACheck out Threadcakes.com, they have contests for cake designers. They have a t-shirt line, your supposed to make a cake based on one of their t-shirts. The contestants must document most of the process; including baking, carving, designing, etc. you will even get to see the internal support systems they use to make these crazy, cool designs. You can see how they incorporate PVC pipes and other hardware (like Delicious Desserts was telling you about). I doubt they will have the design you want but at least you will have more of an understanding of what goes into building a cake like that.

Also, google internal support structures for cake, using PVC with cake, cake carving and structure, carved kung fu panda cake...click on images rather then links and you can look that way and you might get something a bit closer.

I'm a bit confused. In this thread: http://cakecentral.com/t/758610/how-do-i-make-a-shark-plz-help#post_7396201

you said you used RKT and they worked amazingly well, but in this thread you didn't know what they were. Also, that your cakes were, "way toooo amateur to post on here". But you ignored the advice of a bunch of very good cakers here who said that this particular cake was very difficult, even for very experienced cakers.

ALol can u see the nemo cske was made after this request?! Im obviously learning!! I know them as Rice Krispy Treats rather than RTK...is that a crime?! Honestly!!! I didnt ignore theor advice...I wanted to explore and at least try it which I did....whats wrong in that?! Nobody is born a baker and I bet u even the experienced cakers have had trouble with some of their cakes!!
