I recently made a cake, and I'm new to all of this.  I ended up charging $80, but the girl gave me $100. They really loved the cake (thank goodness).  I was just wanting to see what you all would've charged. All of the decorations are edible (either fondant or white chocolate melts) except for the chains on the pendulums.  It was a 9 x 13" cake, and everything was hand painted or handmade....it's covered in fondant.....it was two layers, red velvet with buttercream.  You will see the pictures below.  Oh, it was based on a spiritual advisor's alter....I got photos of her alter and replicated much of it for the cake.  Thank you ahead of time for your input!

AOh my... $80? Not even close to enough for all that hard work! You probably had close to $80 just in supplies not to mention the time it took you to create it.

You did an excellent job by the way; so much attention to detail!

on an 11x7" I'd have asked £180, £145 if they gave me lots of notice so I could make the pieces well ahead of time.

Lovely cake, so much detail!! How long did it take you?

This is one of those times where you can't charge by the serving.  You have to charge by the complexity.  I'd have been near $300.

You'd totally have to charge by the amount of time it takes you to make all those details. A per person price wouldn't work. I'd need to get about $300.00 also to cover my costs and time.

AWow, that is an amazing cake with such great detail. You are very talented!! No wonder they gave you extra money. Looks like I would have sold myself short on that cake too, as I would have charged around $125 or $150 but wouldn't have been able to replicate the deck of cards like you did. I love your cake!!

AThank you all for your replies! It is very helpful. I spent quite awhile on the cake. I'm guessing between 20-30 hours.

I made a 10" round this week that was red velvet with cream cheese frosting, 2 layers, no fondant. The decorations were a combination of edible printer images and fondant decorations made by hand. I will post pics soon. If you have a chance, I'd love to know what you would charge for it as well. Thank you in advance!!!
