Burlap, How Do I Make Fondant Look Like Burlap?
Decorating By connie9003 Updated 31 Mar 2016 , 12:33pm by bellechef
I have a wedding cake to do on the 18th and I need to do a "burlap" border any tips ? I've never made it.
AKara Buntin had som fondant burlap tips on her blog. I can't remember the address but maybe she'll chime in.
Hi connie9003...I also have a burlap design wedding cake for delivery in May. For your burlap decorations, visit the yarn/needle craft section of your local craft store. Purchase the cross stitch plastics for pressing into your fondant. Then dry brush with petal dust to the desired color. I don't know what kind of fondant you will be using or if you've worked with applying fondant pieces to the side of cakes, but you may want to add either Tylose Powder (I think some call it CMC), or a 50/50 blend of gumpaste and fondant. Happy Caking!!!! Fran
Hello,
I use an amazing product called "Cake lace" by Claire Bowman. I am UK based and this can be purchased on line from here http://www.thecakedecoratingcompany.co.uk/hessian-3d-large-cake-lace-mat. I'm not sure where you are but this company ship all over. It is simplicity itself to use and I have also made incredibly beautiful lace with the relevant mats.
Hope this helps xx
You can use the cake lace but if you want to do it with fondant here's one way: http://acaketorememberva.blogspot.com/2013/04/when-trends-collide-burlap-and-giant.html
