Hi, I'm very new to cake decorating and will be making a simple christening cake in a few weeks time. I plan to make a bow to sit up on-top of the cake and was wondering if gumpaste will work ok for this? (I have royal icing that I can add tylo powder to).

I've read that you should use Trex for rolling the royal icing out, instead of icing sugar - does anyone know anything about this?

Sorry for the long winded post, I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing!

Thank you kindly in advance for any help :)

Gumpaste should work just fine but you could also use fondant (I think maybe that's what you mean instead of royal icing) mixed with tylose it's pretty much the same thing. I actually use fondant with tylose for everything.

here is a great video tutorial on how to make a bow if you haven't already watched one:

AYou can use gumpaste or 50/50 (half fondant& half gumpaste) or add gum trag, tylose, trex , cmc (any can work ) to the fondant.

Thank you all for the help! The tutorial was fantastic and I managed to make a lovely bow that held up well with the 50/50 mix.

Sincere thanks guys :)
