Hi

I have decided on a name for my cake business but am useless at designing a logo. I saw a post a couple of months ago and someone put a link to some designs that you could buy to incorporate your business name into them. Something like buying a selection of images and copyright to them. Unfortunately I can't find the post. Does anyone know where I can find something like this?

Thanks

OK I've just found a load on Etsy. Don't really know what I'm doing so any advice choosing would be gratefully received :)

I am struggling with the same thing right now! Totally lost when it comes to the logo! You could create a contest on 99 Designs. I think that is the route I am going to go since I can not come up with anything good on my own. You can put in information of whatever you think you may want it to look like or just give your business name and people will create designs for you. Then you pick a winner. I believe it is about $300 but not positive. They also have some pre-designed logos you can choose from. Good luck!!

AGenerally a good custom logo and branding package from a reputable graphic designer will be at least a few hundred bucks. I would start by contacting local designers in your area to meet with them personally and see if they are a good fit (just as a customer would meet with different bakers when ordering a custom cake).

If you are close to a college or university with a strong graphic arts program you may be able to get a discount by working with a student. I would not recommend going with a cheapo logo from etsy, that's basically the equivalent of serving Walmart cake at a wedding.

99designs looks like a good alternative, and it sounds like it's risk-free since you don't have to pay if you don't like any of the logos.

You can get a great logo, or a cheapo logo, from Etsy. Just like you can get a beautiful handmade piece of jewelry, or people reselling cheap made in China crap.

On 99designs.com  you can buy a premade logo that they will customize for you.  The designs are about $99.00 You don't have to run a contest and spend hundreds of dollars.

Good Luck

I agree, that's why I recommended against getting a cheapo logo from etsy. If you can find a graphic designer on etsy who you feel comfortable working with (maybe set up a teleconference with screen sharing or a Skype session to see if it's a fit) then there's no reason not to go for it, I just find it's easier to work with local vendors. Plus you are supporting your local economy.

That's an option if you have a really tight budget, just remember that a premade logo by definition will be shared by any business that purchases it. If you choose a cake-related logo, there will already be several other bakeries with your exact logo (aside from palette swaps), so you better hope none of them are already in your area or open near you in the future.

99designs does give the option to purchase a premade logo exclusively for $199 if you can find one that hasn't been purchased yet.

I've been designing my logo. I changed my business name and the new name requires a whole new image (which was the point of the change). I am hopefully very lucky to know a person who can help fine tune the design. I am keeping options open in case he doesn't work out for me. He is doing great so far, but the end result is what matters and we're not there yet.

That's why I want to post here in case there are some great suggestions for places that design logos.

I remember seeing this company in my searches. You are happy with the service you received? I have a particular way I want my lines to look. Do they ask you about the little things you want, or just your overall concept? Part of the reason I haven't jumped in to use these services is because I have an exact look I want, but I don't know how receptive they will be to my ideas.

You fill out a questionaire that asks about colors, styles, fonts, ect.  Its like a multiple choice to get an idea of what you are looking for.  They then send 6 designs.  I narrowed it down to 2 and asked for changes on both.  They sent me the edited ones and i chose 1, then asked for more changes on it.  Each time was within a 48 hour turn-around.  After I finally picked my favorite, they sent it to me in 5 different formats.

I was thrilled with the entire process

I used Esty and was very happy with the outcome. My packaged included a FB timeline graphic, sticker designs, multiply business card designs and a few other things. I also paid extra for the psd files so I can make minor revisions on my own
