So it was my birthday yesterday (a young 22!) and this year my boyfriend was insistent on making my cake, as the last few years I have made my own. Now he has never ganached a cake or touched fondant... except to eat it!

The original plan was that it would be a surprise and I wouldn't see it at all until Saturday. Except that became hard as we live together. So I got to help and guide him on what to do. He had a design in mind and it was two tiered, which I know just a year ago the thought of two tiers made me cringe.

And boy did he do a good job.. actually so good it was annoying!
I did try to tell everyone that he used my technique so they don't all think it's that easy.

Has anyone had their partner or even kids make a cake for you?
Good or bad I would love to see them!!

What a sweet guy!  And he did a great job!

My DH bake a cake?  He doesn't even eat it!  My DD this year wanted apple crisp instead of cake (daddy's girl).  Thank goodness I am more of a cookie baker than a caker.  I save my caking for my friends and their kids birthdays!

AWell Bryce hates cake, for his birthday I had to make him a choc ripple cake (in australia we make a log shaped cake by sandwiching choc ripple biscuits together with whipped cream and cover it whipped cream) Contains no cake whatsoever!

AI've got one of those, my husband only has to hear half the instructions once and he can do virtually anything better than me. So frustrating!

WOW! It really looks fabulous! And I know that it is not a question anyone should ever ask, but, is that a bun in that oven, as well? ;-)

AHAHAHA kikiandkyle... Bryce is exactly that!! I kinda didnt want him to do a good job because he can do practically everything better then me, and cakes is the one thing I can do that he cant... Turns out he isn't bad at it either!

Oh and Annabakescakes, you are correct in spotting that bun in the oven, however that isn't me, its one of my friends who is sitting on the other side of tge bench. I was actualky taking the photo! Lol

AI just wanted to say Happy Happy Birthday! My little boy just had his first birthday party today (he turns one on Tuesday). His older brother (my 2 1/2 year old) helped with the cake. He is the official egg getter and taste tester. :-D

My hubby would make me a pizza for my birthday, but a cake, no way.  If I asked he would try but there's no way I am asking as we can't eat all the cake I make and I would hate for him to "get the bug" and want to take over as I LOVE baking.
