After seeing this beautiful wedding cake using sugarveil, I thought I'd give it a try but I don't want to spend $75 or more for the sugarveil mold.  That's a huge expense.  Has anyone used molds that are similar and much less $ and gotten the same effect?

You can use sugarveil in anything, but their mats are superior.  BUT - I don't think this is one of their mats, I don't recognize it.  It's a decent expense, but the overall look is awesome.

AThe mat in the photo is from Australia and is still pricey at $66 (Australian dollars). I was told that you can use Sugarveil with any mold but it needs to be shallow. Also, you might need to put it in the oven to set.

Does anyone know of a U.S. supplier of this particular mat?  The Australian supplier doesn't ship to the U.S.

I Goggled the Sugar Veil Home page for you

http://www.sugarveil.com/information/sugarveil-vendors.htm

This link will show you all the vendors that you can source through - OR you could  email Sugar Veil direct as they do online shopping....

icon_confused.gif  Yes, it is one of their mats... its freely available over here from the sugar veil suppliers

It's a decent expense, but the overall look is awesome.  Really FS? They all sell for between 59.00 - 77.00 AUD

What price would you normally pay in USA $'s

Yes, I know to convert the dollars thumbs_up.gif

At the moment one Australian Dollar is buying .95 American Cents

This is the Sugarveil website.  This is the link to their mats.  Call me blind, but I don't see that mat.

http://www.sugarveil.com/mat/sugarveil-mat.htm

It is entirely possible that there are companies making mats for use with Sugerveil now, all I was saying is it's not a "Sugarveil" brand mat based on the fact that I was just on the Sugarveil website (and just checked again) and I don't see that particular pattern.

I am actually just getting into using Sugerveil myself, if anyone can post links to 3rd party companies that make different design mats that would be rad.

I was pretty sure it wasn't a Sugarveil Mat so I Googled until I found it on the Cakesaroundtown website.  I saw that they didn't ship to the U.S. which is why I asked if anyone knew if there was a U.S. supplier.

There are lots of cheap imitation 'Sugarveil' lace mats flooding the marketplace from China (and other outlets that are sourcing from China)  Some of them are under $10 each

Be warned...... they are NOT all created equal !

They are NOT level..... so when you scrape over your mix to spread it into the mould you will get pieces that are thinner and some areas that don't even fill in

It makes for very 'unpredictable' results - breakages etc

For anybody that has tried to do this and knows the frustration it will cause..... they would think that the $50-odd dollars for a GOOD mould would be worth it

Bluehue - & everyone else reading this post,

Be careful of vendors that sugarveil has on their website. I got a company from their site that is one of their overseas vendors and I made an order in January and have to date received nothing. Any attempt by me to call or email the company has gone south, the phone is no longer connected, emails being ignored. The woman who took my order and sent me confirmation when I made it no longer works there. I called Sugarveil and a really nice sympathetic woman answered my call. She said she'd get back to me which she did, she emailed to say that sugarveil takes no responsibility for overseas vendors on their site. This went back and forth for a while & I have still not gotten anywhere. She told me to take it up with the Better Business Bureau. I told her that as she knows  Sugarveil is an American company, I live in France and the vendor recommended by their website is in Belgium so basically it's impossible.

I am so disappointed, and en plus they still had not taken that vendor off their list.

I'm not dissing the sugarveil products as I love them but I do feel very let down by them (the company).

The mold in your photo is from CrystalCandy.com. They are located in S. Africa and they make stunning molds.  You can use them with Sugarveil or you can purchase their Crystal Lace product which is similar to the Sugarveil powder.  The molds run around $50 - $60 but the shipping is very expensive.  If you plan to make a purchase, I would suggest getting as many as you can afford at one time to get the most out of the $75 shipping fee (to the US).  There is a company in Texas that sells the Crystal Candy molds but they charge about $75 per mold. Working with Sugarveil is not difficult once you get the hang of it and these molds are very easy to use (easier to use than the Sugarveil brand).  I have both brands along with some molds from a French company (found on bakedeco.com).  Sugarveil is an expensive endeavor, but Wow what stunning cakes you can create in a very short period of time.

Sugarveil cannot be expected to take responsibility for what their distributers/retailers do or don't do.

I mean, if I order JEM cutters from ABC cake store online and the next day they go bankrupt - I can't hold JEM responsible.

I totally agree...the goal of any company is to gain mass market awareness and the only way to do that is to take on distributors.  International distributors are a different beast altogether, its not in your country so you cant go by personal experience or references.  As a company you hope that you are bringing on responsible distributors of your product internationally, but once it leaves your facility, it is literally out of your hands.

I've  had this site bookmarked for awhile - CAKE ART  http://www.allaboutcakeart.com/catalog.php?category=6&x=17&y=6

They sell this mat - currently out of stock.  I also don't know anything about the company except I have seen a couple of U-tube videos from them on CAKE LACE.

They have some beautiful mats.

A little less than Sugarveil.  I sent an email to the Texas location to find out if they are going to replenish their stock - many of the mats have been out of stock since I found the site.

Jan is wonderful.  The personal service is amazing.  She sent me all her tips because I've never used sugarveil.  I'll get my order next week - can't wait!
