Hi my name is Vicki. I am trying to help my daughter out. She started baking cakes, and this will be her first three tier cake. She is having a problem pricing her cakes so I told her I would look around, and found this forum. Can anyone give me a suggestion on how much you would charge to make this cake?  What about if you only did it with two tiers? She is just starting out with her business. Any help would really be appreciated

It is nice that you want to help your daughter out but prices vary so much based on geographic area that it what someone else would charge probably won't apply to your area.  It is also based on the skill of the decorator, how many servings, delivered or not, etc, etc.  If you do some searching you will find probably hundreds of pricing threads on cake central that discuss this in various ways.  I have found the best way to search cake central is to use google.  For example type in     pricing cakes cake central        and lots of threads will come up.  Your daughter should also do the same searching for topics on starting a business, getting customers, business plan, cake contracts, deposits and any other topics that she might be wondering about.  It is a good way to get a lot of information quickly without having to wait for new answers.

Thank you for responding. I agree that prices vary in every area. We are in New Jersey.  I have been doing a lot of reading in this forum, and everywhere else on the web. My daughter is great at what she does, baking, but I have more experience in business. Just not in baking. I am trying to familiarize myself so I can help her. I was just curious what other bakers would charge, so I would have an idea.  This is what I came up with, and I was wondering if this was in the ball park for this cake. Considering that this will be made in all fondant 6" 9" 12" I was thinking $300.00.  I am estimating this cake would feed @ 75 people, so based on that if she charges $4 per slice, that would come to $300.00.

Cute cake. Is it an 8-6-4 or a 10-8-6?

She should have pricing (and costing) in place before she even takes an order, or starts a business.

ADon't forget the laws, liabilities, blah blah blah. You know, all the boring business stuff that must be addressed. This business is a lit more than buttercream and sugar flowers.
