Several weeks ago I scheduled a wedding cake tasting with a bride to be. She's not able to do the tasting until May because she is due with her baby now. She has not paid a deposit to book her wedding date which is in November. A few days ago, I had someone else contact me who is interested in setting up a consultation with me, but her wedding date is the same day as the person who has their cake tasting set in May. I don't think I am capable of doing two weddings in one day. What should I do? I don't officially have the first bride's date booked, but she contacted me first, but I don't want to turn away the second bride just in case the first one doesn't end up booking with me. Thanks in advance for anyone's suggestions.

I would contact the original bride and let her know someone would like to book with you on her date, and you would like to give her the opportunity to get her deposit in, like within the next couple of days. 

AYes than make sure from now on do inform anyone who calls and wants to have a tasting or book a date to tell them that there date isn't secured unless you have received a deposit from them.

I actually did already mention to the first bride when she was scheduling her tasting that she could pay the deposit to save her date on my calendar.

AWell than I for sure would inform her that if you don't receive a deposit from her that you have someone else who wants the same date. No sense losing out on the whole day that they want to book

Perhapes it is time to contact the 1st BTB and let her get a deposit in well before the next BTB's tasting.  As AZ said: ..........contact the original bride and let her know someone would like to book with you on her date, and you would like to give her the opportunity to get her deposit in, like within the next couple of days.........

I say it's always 1st booked, only one served.  Are  you *SURE!* you can only do one per day? 

Look at how big each order is/will be and where & what time are they to be delivered.  Many times if both cakes are on the small size & at different times you can handle them both.

Only do what you can comfortably do, without having to enlist new help.  You aren't pressuring the first bride, just informing her of her options. Maybe at that time get some more info on the wedding time, cake size and budget she is looking for.   Perhaps the groom or mother of the bride or someone could stop by and pick up the tasting items and take them to go, along with a copy of your contract, etc.  They could at least decide if they liked your product and review the contract terms and do the design part later.   Then they could make a more informed decision if they wanted to put down a deposit now.
