Un-Wired Open Peony?
Decorating By Petals_and_Pearls_cakes Updated 7 Apr 2013 , 3:09pm by Spooky_789
AHi everyone So I have a cupcake order coming up some of which require mini open peonies on top, does anyone know of it is possible to make an open peony without the wires? I have not yet mastered wired flowers every time I've tried the wire ends up tearing through the flower and just failing miserably! Plus I don't want people taking a bite into a cupcake not realizing there are wires and choking! Your help is greatly appreciated Thankyou! Ellie
the top of a cupcake lends itself to building a peony on top i think
just make your petals accordingly
sure it should work fine
perhaps some of the outermost petals that would be placed on the bottom would be partial petals so the petals on top could fit on right--be postitioned correctly--hopefull it'd be a cupcake with a nice poofy top
for the stamen part-- you could just pipe longer & shorter stringy things
i think it sounds great and i would use fondant with tylose or cornstarch and flavor it raspberry or whatever flavor would coordinate
ATHanks for the tip :) I thought that but I wasn't sure if the petals would stay in place. This is only my 2nd lot of cupcakes I don't get a lot of cupcake orders, do you have any tips on how toget perfectly domed cupcakes? I honestly had never even thought of flavoring gum paste before! What would I use to do that just something like lorann flavoring? Thanks again :)
yes--i use lorann oils
i don't have any words of wisdom about doming cupcakes but i'm sure there's a ton of threads about it
to me, scoring on a great recipe would be an answer to that one
i think having the oven just the right temp to kick the leavening up with just the rignt amount of batter--all the cups filled with the same amount course
fwiw--i have an oven at eye level now and it is the bombshabomb to get things baked to perfection so easily
no simple answers i guess ;)
and you're very welcome
Peonies should be fine without wires, just build them on the cupcakes instead of the wire. I almost never use wires, even when I do roses, I just sort of stick them on the cake.
I too have problems with those nasty wires on EACH petal. Cakejournal.com has a method of making the BIG peonies without wires..Perhaps you can scale her method down for just cupcake size..especially is you want to make them up ahead of time. She does use a toothpick, but I'm she you could remove it after the flower is done.
You could use modelling chocolate/candy clay to make the petals, rather than gumpaste, so that they actually taste good if/when eaten.
