So I have a wedding cake coming up and I've having a hard time wrapping my head around pricing...he wants this crazy cake with 2 gumpaste characters and a batmobile on top! its not exactly an easy task my bas price for fondant cakes is 4 dollars a slice. But I rarely do figures and so I don't really know how to charge for them. How do u guys price up from ur base for something like that.is 50 dollars per character too much?.... not enough?I
AFor toppers and detailed figures it's best to charge based on labor since that is where almost all of the cost will be. If a character will take 3 hours to create then $50 would be a good price.
Keep in mind that permission from the copyright owner is required if you will be recreating copyrighted characters, if you don't have permission then the best you can do is purchasing a licensed figurine.
We do a fair amount of gum paste figures, and we charge for ingredients (the cost of about how much gum paste and/or fondant you think you will use) and then add an hourly labor charge to that.
