I need a maroon icing. I have Wilton Christmas red, when I put it in white icing or gum paste it turns a burnt orange and I put alot in it. I bought Burgundy and its more like a purple. So I need to know if anyone knows how to make maroon color? Help lol

I have previously used Christmas red mixed with royal blue and a tiny bit of egg yellow to get a maroon colour.  I was only needing a little icing so it didn't take much, but if you're wanting a larger quantity of strong colour it will take a lot more colouring.

Yeah, that's a tough color to get.  What I do when mixing color in fondant is have a color example in front of me of the exact color I want to make.  Then I hold up the fondant that I've colored next to it and you can tell what you need to add just by looking at the difference between them.  I would start out with a red-red to get the base color and then add your blue or purple or other color a little at a time.  Remember too that darker colors like maroon will need time to develop and they will darken.

When coloring fondant, I use red & chocolate brown. My thoughts are to use a bit of chocolate buttercream but haven't personally tried.

You may get a cake for $way to little but you won't get this cake!

Its true. It's a tough colour. I second to what these other ladies have said. But just my penny's worth. Add a tiny bit of black too.
